I’m beside myself with excitement to introduce a new series of videos on Hairdresser On Fire. This series of tutorials will all be styles that can be done in well under two minutes, you know, for the girl who’s in a hairry!

In A Hairry – Hairdresser on Fire – Hairry 1 from Joe Varca on Vimeo.

Step by step instructions:

Flip your head upside down.
Start a french braid at the nape of your neck.
Braid until you get to the crown of your head and gather all the rest of your hair into your hand firmly.
Tie up into a pony tail
Twist or stuff into a bun and pin/tie into place.
Pull down your mancatchers.
Go about your business.

This video is also special, because it’s the first time having my new theme song featured! My sister/brotherinlaw’s great band, Imagination Head, wrote this little jingle for my videos and it makes me feel like Hairdresser On Fire is finally complete. I love my job.

Thanks to Imagination Head and Joe Varca for another great video! See our other videos here!

Another video coming your way.

I keep watching this LDR for H&M video. It’s so strange and stylish and slightly silly. I love the typist with the curls, the girls on the sofa, and Lana’s creepy long nails. Her hair basically never looks bad.

I’m as free as my hair.

I love this behind the scenes video of Gaga’s Vogue cover shoot. I’ve loved her “Hair” song so much over the last year and a half, but haven’t been able to find a video that could be posted on my blog until now. I love the hair pieces, wind machines, and light heartedness of the video. And most of all, I love how hair gives you such an endless way to express yourself!

I’m as free as my hair!

Namesake.

Ever wonder where the name of this blog comes from? I’m sure many of you know the Morrissey song, but just in case you don’t I thought it would be fun to post it here.

I love Morrissey (and The Smiths), but never really cared for this song that much. I think because of my blog, it’s really grown on me and I listen to it on purpose now. When I had the idea to start a hair blog and I was thinking of names, this song came to me right away. I love that it’s funny and makes me sound kind of like a super hero. When I tell people about my blog and they ask the name of it, we always giggle after I say “Hairdresser on Fire” with my fists on my hips like I’m superman or something.

My favorite lines are “You’re just so busy, busy busy, busy scissors oh ooohhhh” and “You’re repressed but you’re remarkably dressed”.

Anyway, enjoy the song that has inspired me more than any other.

**** Hair Stylists Say

When all these youtube videos started coming out, my friends at work and I start joking about what we’d say if there was a hairstylist version. Well, there is a hairstylist version! One of the creators emailed this to me a few weeks ago, and I’ve watched it probably 10 times. I love when he compares hair color to food* and other lines like “short but long”, “messy but clean”, and “I was thinking Kate”.

Pretty clever.

*chocolate brown, honey blonde, cherry red are all commonly used to describe hair color!

Tutorial: Sweetheart Braid

I invented this little braid because the only other heart braids I’ve seen were full blown little girl ‘dos, and I wanted to give your hair something festive for Valentine’s day! This style is quick, easy, and sweet as pie. Try it out as a full up do if you are feeling more formal, and by all means, tease that crown before you get started for a more “grown up” (eh hem…sexy) look.

I’ve had so many ideas to make my tutorials more creative and interesting, and we’re finally trying them out! I hope you all like them, I can’t wait to show you more!

Happy Thanksgiving week! What are you thankful for? Today I’m thankful for healthy hair! Jokes aside, I can’t wait to show you our fourth video from our Aussie series. My model, Hadley, has long gorgeous hair that she wears in many ways. She colors is, curls it, ponies it and buns it. So using products to prevent breakage is very important. In this video, I’ll be using the Aussie Anti-Breakage Spray before blow drying and finishing up with a pretty pony tail. Enjoy!

Recently, Jake and I worked on a video shoot with Aussie. The focus of the videos, is to learn how to solve some of our most common hair problems using Aussie products.

I’m so excited to be able to show you all the first of the five videos. My model, Erin has been a client of mine for a while now and she loves a smooth and straight blow dry. In this video, we’ll be using the Aussie Spray Gloss to show how you can prevent dull looking ends and get all over smoothness.

Tutorial: How to use a hair pin.

Recently when I did the Half Up and Full Up Fat Twist tutorials, I told you that I’d do a hair pin tutorial. They are really great alternatives to bobby pins, and they don’t give you as much of a headache! So, we did this quick little video last night to show those of you who couldn’t figure out the pin situation.

Remember, this is a Hair Pin tutorial! If it had been a bun tutorial, I would have spent a little more time making it look nice. Haha

PS we didn’t go to DC.
