I’m beside myself with excitement to introduce a new series of videos on Hairdresser On Fire. This series of tutorials will all be styles that can be done in well under two minutes, you know, for the girl who’s in a hairry!

In A Hairry – Hairdresser on Fire – Hairry 1 from Joe Varca on Vimeo.

Step by step instructions:

Flip your head upside down.
Start a french braid at the nape of your neck.
Braid until you get to the crown of your head and gather all the rest of your hair into your hand firmly.
Tie up into a pony tail
Twist or stuff into a bun and pin/tie into place.
Pull down your mancatchers.
Go about your business.

This video is also special, because it’s the first time having my new theme song featured! My sister/brotherinlaw’s great band, Imagination Head, wrote this little jingle for my videos and it makes me feel like Hairdresser On Fire is finally complete. I love my job.

Thanks to Imagination Head and Joe Varca for another great video! See our other videos here!

I did it. This inspiration right here? It happened. Take a look!

Again, I don’t have platinum hair or bangs like the original, also I don’t have the length to make this bun as massive as I’d have liked it to be. But I have to say that I really like my take on it. It’s fuzzier than the inspiration photo, because I didn’t straighten my hair first, and also because I am never offended by a little fuzz. If I did this for a formal event, I imagine I’d put in some extensions, especially in the braid. My braid wasn’t long enough to wrap all the way around the bun, so extensions would solve that! Also, I imagine a huge bow in the back would be a dream. I’m doing that next time too. There will be a next time, mark my words.

This would also be beautiful at the nape of your neck. It would also be beautiful on my friend Amanda Blair. I’m going to try it on her next.

Would you wear this look? It would be great for the girl on a date with the tallest man alive. You know, to balance out the height difference. Wearing this bun gave me an extra 4 inches at least. Teasing is practically the high heels of hair.

The off centered top knot

I wore my hair in a bun for 4 days straight. On Monday, I didn’t have time to shampoo, but I could not wear a bun on top of my head another day because it was hurting. A few of you have emailed me about your hurty buns, so I know I’m not the only one out there with this problem! So, since my hair was such a fright that I couldn’t wear it down, I decided to go with the off centered top knot. It was cute and gave the top center part of my head/hair a rest. The next morning I shampooed my hair for a very long time and told it sorry for doing too many back to back buns.

Would you do an off centered top knot? For some reason it reminds me of the Tinman’s hair style, which always makes me laugh super hard.

Sarah’s wedding.

I feel like I’ve been talking about Sarah’s wedding for an eternity! Probably because it was definitely the highlight of my summer, and possibly even my year. It was an honor to be a part of Sarah and Matt’s day, and everything turned out perfect.

I wanted to show you all a few pictures of the day, because as in all weddings, hair was of major importance! Because I was Maid of Honor, I felt that I had to look awesome. The bride suggested that because our dresses were one shoulder, it would look nice to have our hair to the side in some way. This gave me a million options…you know how I love those low messy side buns! I decided to stick to the semi-Grecian theme of our gowns, and do some sort of goddess-y coil curls into a chignon. It was easy and stayed through the outside heat during the ceremony and the dancing. We all know I’m an animal on the dance floor, so that says a lot.

Just call me Haira. Get it? Like the Greek goddess Hera?

One of the best parts of the day, was spending the morning with Sarah getting ready. I did her hair Victoria’s secret style and we laughed and chatted with her mom. I think half the fun of a wedding is taking so much time to get all dressed up. I don’t think anyone can say that Sarah didn’t look perfect. There was never a more beautiful bride. Get me some tissues. (I just realized I need someone around that I can say things like “get me some tissues” to.)

Me, Sarah and Gigi. We all assisted together back in the day. If you’ve ever assisted at a big upscale salon you know what we went through together! Definitely a bond we share!

In case you were wondering, I cried like a little child. Being the Maid (Matron) of honor was one of the most special times of my life. Knowing someone like Sarah considers me her best friend means I have pretty much nothing in the world to complain about!

Tutorial: Low Messy Side Bun

I think this might be one of my favorite tutorials to date. This is a style that I wear very often, and you’ll see why when you watch the video. It can be perfected in a matter of minutes! If I don’t get 50 emails with LMSB photo submissions, I don’t know what will make you happy, guys. So hairies, I’m hoping for 50 photos. Do it!

My hair dos: Low Messy Side Bun

This is one of my most frequent hairstyles. The low messy side bun is the laziest thing in the world. Sometimes I make it more polished, but generally I do it in a rush with no bobby pins or anything! I pull all of my hair to the side and cram it in a clear pony holder. Then I pick out little pieces around the face and ears to make it perfectly messy!

Maybe a tutorial later on, but I’m not sure you need one!

Hair Answers: Trendiest Wedding Hair.

Q by Sarah: So one of my BFFs is getting married this June, and I am the Maid of Honor. This is the third wedding for our group of friends, and in both of the previous two weddings, everybody’s looked really classic and timeless as far as bridesmaid hair and attire go. For this wedding, we thought it would be awesome if one of my Maid of Honor duties was having a really of-the-moment, trendy hairstyle on the big day. Ie. one that will be dated later so that we can laugh at the pictures in 20 years. Any thoughts on really of-the-moment, trendy Maid of Honor hair? My dress is one of those one-shoulder deals.

A by Reagan: This is definitely a fun question. The first style that popped into mind when I thought of trendy wedding hair, was long, loose wavy hair. This is how every bride/bridal party seems to be wearing their hair these days. I admit, at my own Vegas wedding just over 4 years ago, I did long, loose, flowing waves. It is more popular than ever now. It is a very Victoria’s Secret look. I think the look will keep around for a while, but it won’t be popular forever! I think one day you’ll look at the photos and know it was a 2011ish wedding. Remember when everyone wore their hair up for their wedding? Up-dos were the big thing? Most people are wearing it down. Down hair is the trendiest of all wedding trends right now. Also, look at the red carpet these days, down hair is all over that business too.

If you want to accessorize it in a trendy way, the bride can wear a birdcage veil, and the bridesmaids can wear a feather/flower piece.

The second look I thought of, is the topknot. The topknot (bun right smack on the top of your head), is definitely a big look right now. It can be done a lot of ways. You can make it slightly fuzzy for a soft/romantic look, thrown together for a messy look, teased to make it big like my party bun, or slick and smooth for a formal look. You can do it in the middle or off-centered. Do the topknot!

(i know the Mandy Moore topknot is very similar to a classic wedding bun, but it’s the fact that it is so high up that makes it trendy!)

Thanks, Sarah! I hope I get a picture of the look you choose!
