My Beauty Secrets: Two Minute Make-Up

I make my mornings before work very busy. I work out, I read, I clean sometimes, I watch reality tv, I blog, I read blogs. It’s when I’m my busiest. I am a morning person and I just don’t really sleep in.

Being a morning person, and not needing to leave for work until 20 after 11 on most days, I crack up thinking about how I’m still almost always rushing to get ready for work even though I’ve been awake for 5 hours already. I’m throwing together an outfit, brushing my teeth while putting on my shoes and running all over the place making my lunch and looking for my keys.

On those days, I literally do my make up in under two minutes. I examine my biggest flaws, and plan my attack. I pick the most essential items and run away with them. Here they are.

Under eye hideous bags of destruction.
Nothing makes me feel older than I am and more poorly rested than under the eye bags. For that f-bomb of a problem, I use the big guns known as Make Up Forever. This stuff is no joke. I got it at Sephora. I put a tiny dot under each eye and pat it on until it’s all blended.

Next is powder. All over my face guys. I use MAC mineral powder in Light.

On to mascara. I rarely leave the house without mascara. I only put it on my top lashes and I only do about 4 or 5 swipes on each eye. Even though I don’t use all that much, I just can’t imagine wandering this city with naked looking eyes. Ew. Just ew. I love Smashbox because it has a wonderful huge wand and it just applies so perfectly. I love this mascara.

Finally, I finish up with this.

I have never known what this is called. I guess Rosebud? I just call it my lip tin. I love this because it smells and tastes nice, but also because it was one of my first beauty products. I remember using this when I was a little girl. Only the case had a sliding lid. I used it until there was nothing left. Then I cleaned out all the slime and kept secret treasures in there. I bought this at Anthropology for basically double the normal cost, but you can also get some online for sure. I guess just google “Lip Tin from Reagan’s childhood”.

There you have it! My quickiest of the quicks make up routine!

Not sure if it’s by the same Co, but I use Smith’s Rosebud Salve! It is my one “cannot live w/out” product & the only thing that works on my chapped-since-childhood lips. Love!

This one time, back when I was in grad school, I was running late so I did my makeup in a jiffy. I had also just picked up one of those new (at the time) mascaras that came with the white primer on one end and then the mascara on the other end and was supposed to make your eyelashes super luxe. So, anyways, I hurriedly did my makeup with the new mascara and was out the door and off to campus. First, I had to meet one on one with a professor. I couldn’t help but notice how he seemed to keep glancing at my eyelashes. I thought, wow! for a 65+ year old man to notice my eyelashes, this stuff must really work. Then, I had an hour to kill before class so I went to the library to study. I noticed as I walked around campus, everyone seemed to pause and look at me. WOW! This IS THE BEST MASCARA EVER! I thought. So, then I have class and I notice the peeps sitting near me keep glancing over at me. I silently vow only to purchase mascara with primer forever and ever. Then I head home, and it’s not until I get home and head to the bathroom to take my makeup off that I realize, with horror, that I had been walking around with WHITE EYELASHES all day long! I had put on the primer part of the mascara, but in my rush out the door had forgotten to go back over them with the black part. So, NO JULIE, NOONE is looking at your luxurious eyelashes, they are just staring in horror at your WHITE EYELASHES. ugh. That was definitely a lesson in humility and also a reminder to wake up 5 minutes earlier to do my makeup.

this looks similar to my routine, except I use Mac liquid makeup. I love when you find a good routine and can bus tit out quickly in the mornings. I did just run out of under eye concealer though so I might need to try this new one to see how it works.

i use and love MAC’s Mineralize Skin Finish also. I use Medium. It’s my foundation. I use the kabuki brush and you can just do a dusting, or layer it on. The coverage is super. I’m 44 so I’ve got some stuff on my face that I like to cover up (redness, that sort of thing) and this product is great. I can apply it without even looking in the mirror!

I love MAC’s StudioFix BoldBlack Mascara. Just great.

MAC shadows and blush. And lippie. I’ve been using MAC even when they were still a Canadian company from Toronto and just started getting magazine / make-up artists’ mentions. (Well, ‘make up art cosmetics). I have way too much MAC; far more than I’ll ever use. I find a more subtle look works on me the older (sob!) I get. I just love putting on my makeup. My kids have practically grown up in the MAC stores :-) I have my ‘no makeup’ look; and a makeup look.

I would *love* to be able to do my makeup in 2 minutes. I’m one of those people who has to allot at least 45 minutes from start to finish to do hair, makeup, & get dressed. And I usually plan my outfit out in my head the night before. LOL. Even my “quick” makeup look for lazy Sundays or running out to the store real quick is 10 minutes. But I admire anyone that can go with the basics and look nicely put together like they took a lot longer.

If I could suggest a mascara to you in case you want to try another kind, Maybelline’s Colossal Mascara (yellow tube, purple writing) is awesome. It’s often on sale, it’s buildable, gives you gorgeous full lashes with only 2-3 coats, and it does not flake or clump. I’ve tried a lot of mascaras, but this one is perfect. I’ve had people ask me if my lashes are real with this on. And I might have to try that Rosebud balm. I love balms that have a hint of color because I find that lipstick and gloss rub off too quickly on me or my lips get dry too fast. I swear by Vaseline Lip Therapy in the tubes for really chapped lips. Mine would get so dry I could feel dents in my lower lip, and the Vaseline had them de-chapped in 2 days. Great if you ski or are out in the cold and wind in the winter, too.

The salve is Smith’s Rosebud Salve. It comes in the original formula, which is in a blue tin and smells like roses and can be used on lips, skin, hair, rashes…etc. Then they have a peppermint lip salve and the strawberry salve…which you showed. They now also have the regular formula in a squeeze lip tube. You can get them at Sephora, usually in the little travel section and mini’s bins. and also can find them at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters :0) Hope that helps. I love Smith’s Rosebud Salve….I have used it for years…it’s so gentle and smoothing….great to tame frizzy hair too!
