Tutorial: How to make a Flower Crown

I love flower crowns. Flowers in my hair is a sure way to make me feel pretty and put a smile on my face. So let’s make some flower crowns! They’re super easy! I made mine while humming the song “If you’re going to San Fransisco.”

Supplies you will need:
Lot’s of flowers. I used silk. I find that getting mostly big flowers works the best.
Green wire. They’ll have it in the floral arranging section at your craft store.
Green floral tape. Also at your craft store.
Wire cutters.
Glue gun (optional)

Step one: Start by making a circle the size of your head with the wire. You can double or triple up to make it sturdier.

Step two: Use your wire cutters to clip the flowers so that they have about an inch of stem near the blossom.

Step three: Attach your flowers to the wire one by one, working backwards so each new blossom is covering the stem of the one before it. You’ll want to wrap the tape around each stem several times to make sure it’s secure.

Optional: Use a glue gun on any loose areas. I also glued down some of the tape, since it’s not the stickiest!

Not optional: Wear your flower crown and never stop smiling.

I made this flower crown for a very exciting photo shoot my friend will be doing. I can’t wait to share those photos when they’re up!

Earlier on this summer, I posted the Hippie Halo tutorial. It’s one of my favorite tutorials to date, but there was a whole section of me taking my hippie halo out for a bike ride that didn’t make the final cut. I watched it recently and decided it was too cute to be unshared. Check it out below!

This week on Divine Caroline I show you a little bungee tutorial.

I talk about how bungees are amazing for all your pony tail needs…”Especially if your hair is thick and unruly. Bungees don’t put up with that type of behavior….and for good reason.”

Ever since the Hippie Halo, I’ve been promising another video with Emi Jay and here it finally is! In this video, you’ll see all the ways my beaded bestie (Karrie) and I try out Emi Jay’s multi-strand beaded headband, and a pretty little braid tutorial towards the end that I came up with just for the video.

Watch the video below, and please enjoy! This one might just be my favorite!

Many thanks to the great band Honeypie for letting us feature their song No Difference. Make sure you check out their new album Fields Don’t Disappear! They can also be found on facebook and their music can be downloaded on iTunes or Bandcamp.

If you are a great musician or band, or know of any that would like to be featured in a tutorial like Honeypie, email me at hello@hdofblog.com

Last but not least, a very special thanks to Joe Varca, Franke Varca, and my beaded bestie Karrie Gholson…who came over and spent an entire night giggling with me during the making of this tutorial.

This tutorial sure has been a long time coming! I’m quite proud of the video, and working with this crew has been a dream! I’m so excited for you all to see it.

Please enjoy!

Note: This look is best achieved with an Emi Jay headband. I’ve tried it with a number of other headbands and the results are just not the same (the honest truth!). I created the Hippie Halo in my bathroom mirror after opening up my first pack of Emi Jay headbands…it seems like only yesterday. Their products are great and I’ve enjoyed working with the company so much. We have another video currently being edited that I think you’ll love!

Go here to scope out all the great products at Emi Jay. And as always, send in your Hippie Halo photos!

Tutorial: Sweetheart Braid

I invented this little braid because the only other heart braids I’ve seen were full blown little girl ‘dos, and I wanted to give your hair something festive for Valentine’s day! This style is quick, easy, and sweet as pie. Try it out as a full up do if you are feeling more formal, and by all means, tease that crown before you get started for a more “grown up” (eh hem…sexy) look.
