My favorite Movie Hair: My Week With Marilyn

I know I’m a little late to this, but I don’t see movies in the theater often. I watched My Week With Marilyn on the plane ride home from Buenos Aires and it was so good. Michelle Williams was amazing. I love her anyway, but I thought she did such a great performance showing the pain Marilyn had in her life. She was the most beautiful and famous woman in the world, but she felt insecure and lonely anyway. I loved the movie.

Anywho (anyhair? no?)…the hair was great. See for yourself.

Did you see My Week With Marilyn?

My Favorite Movie Hair: Evita

By the time you read this, I’ll be in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’m going with my mom and sister. I’ve heard wonderful/beautiful things about the city, and I’m looking forward to sharing my trip with you when I return!

To get excited for the trip, I watched Evita. You know, Madonna-Evita, not the one currently on Broadway starring the foxy Ricky Marten. Anyway, the hair is wonderful. All kinds of soft waves and victory rolls. I love the 1940s.

Here are a few still images from the movie.

I’m a nerd for musicals, but the music in this one isn’t really my favorite. But it’s still worth watching for the styling and wardrobe alone.

My Favorite Movie Hair: Margot Tenenbaum

I was sick on Monday with a stupid cold. I took turns watching movies, napping and checking facebook. One of the movies I watched was an old favorite “The Royal Tenenbaums”. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. Like all Wes Anderson movies, it’s got a cool/muted color scheme, dark humor and a dysfunctional family. Also, it was filmed in my neighborhood here in NYC and I recognize so many outdoor scene locations. I love when that happens.

Anyway, Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, Margot, is the best role she’s ever done. Margot wears a fur coat, a stripey collared dress and a blonde bob with a red barrette for pretty much the whole movie. Also, she has a wooden finger. But really, her straighty straight bob is spectacular.

Whenever I watch this movie, I remember that I want to be Margot for Halloween some year. Jake would make a great Richie if he grew his hair out!

My Favorite Movie Hair: Romeo + Juliet

I present to you, a Valentine’s themed Movie Hair post!

***

Romeo + Juliet is maybe my favorite movie ever. It came out when I was in 7th grade (15 years ago!!) and my friends and I were obsessed. Obsessed with the hero (LEO!) obsessed with the soundtrack (Love Fool!) and obsessed with the hair (half up halo!). Still to this day, I think it is one of the most visually pleasing movies of all time. I am drawn in to every scene with the juxtaposition of the sets mix of old/new props. I love how they have pops of neon lights randomly, in the chapel even!

So onto the hair. In the first 30 minutes of the movie, Juliet is dressed for the costume party as an angel. She has her hair in a half up halo. I get nostalgic when I watch the scenes with her hair like this, and I wonder why I’ve never done it to my hair. I still think it’s the sweetest hair ever.

Here are a few crappy screen grabs I got while watching it on my iPad recently.

I would have DIED to be an extra at the costume party. How fun, right? Also, Paul Rudd’s character is hilarious.

While writing this post, I noticed that the above halos appear to be a braid, and the below halos look like twists! I guess these were filmed on different days. Also, the below photos cover more of her ears than the above. If you’re not a hair person, you may not have noticed, ever.

I’ve met the actor who plays Tybalt a few times, and I have to hold myself back from saying “PEACE! I hate the word…As I hate hell, all Montegues…and Thee.”

Weren’t Claire and Leo the perfect J+R? Ahh, this movie. I want to watch it right now.

PS don’t laugh at me that I’m nerding out because I just realized that Jake and I also make J+R.

My Favorite Movie Hair: The Girl On The Bridge

Vanessa Paradis plays Adele in The Girl On The Bridge. It’s a french black and white film about an unlucky young girl who at her wits end, decides to jump off a bridge, but is saved by an aspiring knife thrower. He convinces her to join him in the circus as his target. It’s a charming little film, and the hair is beautiful.

Adele starts out with a mid-length bob. It’s perfect with perfect little pixie bangs (that I’m tempted to try). After joining the circus, she chops it into a dramatic pixie, that she wears in finger waves on stage.

Sweet pin curls!

The movie is awesome and you should see it! It’s definitely a netflix must if you like foreign films.

PS Vanessa Paradis is Johnny Depps life partner!

My Favorite Movie Hair: Holly Golightly

I’ve decided to start a new segment on my blog about hair from the movies! Movies often inspire trends in every sense of the word, and I’d be lying if told you they don’t inspire me. Sometimes I catch myself loving or hating a movie, based on the hair/costume/styling alone. There are so many iconic hair moments in movies, and I’m really excited to share my favorites with you here!

It might be the obvious choice, but my first favorite movie hair is Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I love this movie. I love everything about it. When I watch Holly on the screen, I am mesmerized with her life, her apartment, her relationships, her cat, her clothes, her business (Snow in New Orleans!) and of course…her hair.

She basically wears a huge glorious french twist the whole movie. From the big swoop on top, to the highlights in the front, to her wispy little pixie bangs, it’s the perfect look. Holly Golightly might be my be all end all of girl crushes.

On to the pictures!

Are you humming Moon River yet?

Fact, about two years ago, I made it my mission to find a sleep mask like Holly’s. I spent an entire Saturday ebaying and etsying and googling anything I could imagine that would find me this mask. I had no luck.
