My friend Jen (avocadojen to you insta-friends!) got married last weekend. Id love to post some more pics with her hair and beautiful flower crown, but today Ill just post a few of my hair and crown! All the women in the wedding wore a little braid detail and a little flower (or not so little) detail. In my head I kept saying this wedding was urban hippie, which felt right. The wedding party was put up in an incredible loft in Williamsburg, and the wedding was held at a cool outdoor pizza place in Bushwick.

Here are some photos! The hair was fun, the gowns were fun, the wedding was real fun.

I made myself a little Caesar style flower crown, that only went around the back, because I decided the bride should be the only one with flowers in the front..since shes clearly the special one.

The other bridesmaid, Kylie, and I wore these beautiful green ACNE gowns that we got from Barneys NY. Im so lucky to have a very close friend who works there and treats me to an occasional discount. Ill wear this beaut many more times. Kylie and I didnt have plans to match, but we both loved this color and shape so much that it just worked out that way! Tara, the redheaded cutie, was a grooms-lady and Im really hoping someone got a good picture of her hair, because the back was a braided creation!

Some of my friends walked by Robertas that night and remembered I was at a wedding there that night, so they peeked in the tents to see if they could spot me. They said theyd never seen a sillier wedding dancer in their lives. Which wasnt hard for me to believe, because I cannot tear myself away from the dance floor at a wedding.

More to come! And its time I did some more tutorials!

I love flower crowns. Flowers in my hair is a sure way to make me feel pretty and put a smile on my face. So lets make some flower crowns! Theyre super easy! I made mine while humming the song If youre going to San Fransisco.

Supplies you will need:
Lots of flowers. I used silk. I find that getting mostly big flowers works the best.
Green wire. Theyll have it in the floral arranging section at your craft store.
Green floral tape. Also at your craft store.
Wire cutters.
Glue gun (optional)

Step one: Start by making a circle the size of your head with the wire. You can double or triple up to make it sturdier.

Step two: Use your wire cutters to clip the flowers so that they have about an inch of stem near the blossom.

Step three: Attach your flowers to the wire one by one, working backwards so each new blossom is covering the stem of the one before it. Youll want to wrap the tape around each stem several times to make sure its secure.

Optional: Use a glue gun on any loose areas. I also glued down some of the tape, since its not the stickiest!

Not optional: Wear your flower crown and never stop smiling.

I made this flower crown for a very exciting photo shoot my friend will be doing. I cant wait to share those photos when theyre up!

Silk Flower Crown (a childs btw)

I made this flower crown for Piper Jane a few years ago and have found myself wearing it randomly around the apartment when I clean or brush my teeth or lift weights. If you havent ever experienced what its like to live alone, I recommend you try it. You will soon find that you are a very weird person. Things like lifting weights while wearing a childs size flower crown are just things you do sometimes. Anyway, this crown is way too small for me. It looks funny when my hair is down, but I thought it might look pretty with the old grab and pin up do I sometimes do. If you dont know what the old grab and pin up do is, you are so missing out! You just grab and pin! Sometimes you do a pony tail first (like I did here), sometimes you curl first, but then you just grab and pin! Im not kiddinworks every time.

Anyway, I made this crown with a simple crafting wire, green tape for your silk flowers needs, and silk flowers from Michaels. I do think it looks like its made out of silk flowers, but its still pretty. Ive had a good crush on flower crowns for a long time, and dont know why I havent made one for myself. Little Piper is probably sick of me borrowing the one I made for her anyway. I wouldnt mind having one of my own that fits my adult sized head properly, and that would allow me to wear my hair down. Also, I wouldnt mind mastering the REAL flower crown. Silkies are nice, but the scent of real flowers in my hair would make for a very good day. Still inspired by these ones.

PS all this talk about flower crowns has me thinking Halloween costume thoughts. Its never too soon you know.
