Weekend hair.

This is what I want to do to my hair this weekend. My version will be a little different what with me not being a platinum blonde, not having bangs and not having a hilariously bug-eyed pup.

Now that I’m thinking about it, my version will be quite different. The inspiration is heavenly though.

Happy weekend!

Lips On Fire. Number One Red.

I have this one client from Hong Kong. She comes in and heads turn. I’m talking all the heads in New York City turn. Beautiful skin, gorgeous face, amazing style…she’s stunning. Just trust. She always wears a red so perfect, so I finally had to ask her what it was. She reached for her Chanel bag and pulled out a little tube of what I was calling “the red of the century”. I’ve now started calling it “the red of every century”, because there was never a better red. And there will never be a better red.

It’s Sephora Cream Lipstain. Number One-Always Red. And you can get it online here. (Bonus: It’s only 12 bones!)

Lip stains are great because they stay on for a very long time. In fact, put this on slowly and carefully, because it is hard to fix a mistake once it’s been applied. This lip stain only needs to be applied once every 12 hours, if that. You can eat, drink, kiss..whatever, and it will stay on. I wish they were paying me to say that.

This lip stain and I are so happy together. We smile, we smile big.

Earlier on this summer, I posted the Hippie Halo tutorial. It’s one of my favorite tutorials to date, but there was a whole section of me taking my hippie halo out for a bike ride that didn’t make the final cut. I watched it recently and decided it was too cute to be unshared. Check it out below!

Lips on Fire. Force Of Love.

The other day I met up with a friend and after the hugging and the cheek kissing she said “Where are your lips?”. I thought to myself, ‘I left home without my lips again? How embarrassing.’. So I guess I’ve turned into a lipstick monster of some sort. I felt as though I had forgotten pants.

After noticing how frequently I get asked in the comments or on facebook what shade I’m wearing in my posts, I decided to have a weekly lipstick spotlight.

First up is a beautiful summery color by MAC, called Force Of Love. I chose this first because it is so summery, I wanted you all to have a chance to wear this before summer is gone.

This color is brighter than you can tell in the photos. It’s kind of a neon pinky/orangey/coral. I love contrasting it with black, but it goes amazing with blues and teals too. As long as I’m stocked up on Force of Love, summer is welcome to stay.

I believe this color was a limited edition (which I smartly bought two tubes of!) but you can buy it on Amazon, here.

I wore this color all over Miami and I’ve been tempted to call it the Magic Wand of lipsticks ever since.

Hair during the golden hour.

I love when I take one look at something and get inspired. When I pulled this headband out of the box, I had it all planned out. Deep side part, very full ends, big waves, red lips, golden hour.

This headband had me feeling a little bit flapper, and although long hair was very out of style in the 20s, I compensated by having the band hug my hair in all the right places. And wearing the reddest lips I could find. I strategically placed the headband in a spot where if I made loads of volume below it, just so, it would create bulk around my face. Like a bob would. Which IS 20s. (It made all the sense in the world in my head!)

To be honest, this photo shoot was for no other reason other than I got excited about the vision this headband gave me. Do you ever do that? I mostly do that with hair, lipstick, and shoes.

See what I mean by golden hour? My hair literally looks like it’s on fire.

Here is my terrible attempt at a flapper pose. Gatsby would tell me I oughtta be ashamed.

Hairdresser On Fire on Elle.com

A few days ago I was on Elle.com!

Here is a screen shot of the page. It was truly an honor that Madam Tussaud made a wax figure of me. Kidding. But seriously, I somehow look like a wax figure of myself and it’s amazing, no? Now I know how to prune, smize and look like a wax figure. Also, don’t you love my browser tabs? I’m the biggest fan of Big Brother in the world, and I don’t care who knows it.

When I was interviewed, I was a little distracted by being in hair and make-up. If I could go back, I would have said things all different. Like, “Hairdresser on Fire is a magical blog where the more you read, the larger your hair gets.”. Which is true. I’ve had reader submitted testimonials.

Why was I on Elle.com?

Last Saturday, I walked in a Blogher Fashion Show. It was a very fun event and I always love connecting with other bloggers even though I’m so awkward. Side note: when there is a small group of people around, I am the social queen. When there are more than say..ten, I feel incredibly awkward, and not in a cute way. I freeze up and turn into some sort of introvert. So a lot of blogging events intimidate me. I know a lot of people at Blogher by now, and it was great to see all the amazing women who are so talented and smart. I love this community!

So anyway, we did a fashion show that I will tell you all about soon! It will probably be a few weeks before we get any pictures back, but as soon as I do, they’ll be posted. The clothes were beautiful, and my fabulous friend Katherine Finney styled two amazing outfits for me to walk in. I can’t wait to share!

As soon as the pictures come back, I’ll be telling you all about my hair and make up for the night. Especially how I got these curls!

Go here to see the story!

Strawberry Blonde is our jam.

My friend Maggie and I have been friends since she moved to Tennessee in 6th grade. With her living in DC and me here in NYC, we’re able to keep in touch quite well. She was in town over the weekend and we started marveling over dinner. We marveled over being newly single, we marveled over nearing the end of our 20s (we’re both 28) and we marveled over having strawberry blonde hair. The reason this is of significance, is that Maggie and I, out of all of our friends, were the girls who wanted our hair as long and as blonde as possible. Especially in high school. I also wanted my lips as shimmery as possible, but that’s a marvel for a different day.

Anyway, we both still have long hair, and we’re both blonde, but it’s funny how you realize something you were all about, was really all wrong for you. Cool blonde is a gross tone on me and my skin, and although Maggie pulled it off nicely, the warmer blonde suits her personality better. Not to mention her hair has never looked shinier.

I’m pro-strawberry blonde. For life.

Do you ever see that person who has definitely had the same hair since high school? Only high school was several decades ago? And you’re like “woah, no one told you!”. And they’re like “I heart scrunchies and banana clips.”.

Anyway, I feel like Maggie and have just escaped that last paragraph by a hair. Maybe I’ll have long wavy wannabe mermaid hair well into my hundreds, and maybe Maggie will have long straight hair with bangs well into hers, but at least we’ve found a suitable tone to take us there.

Is it hard for you to break out of your hair’s comfort zone?

My hair crush on Erin Wasson

You could say that I have a slight hair crush on Erin Wasson. You could also say that I have a style crush, a leg crush, and a hat crush too. Really, I just have an overall girl crush on her. Doesn’t she seem like a rowdy time? She is always being cool, just plain cool in every picture I see of her.

Anyway, her hair is always cool too. A little wild and a little natural, like she doesn’t care. She just wants to rock.

Here are a few photos that I love of Erin Wasson. Of course it was impossible to find a source for any of them, but the first one looks a little Terry Richardson to me.

There are tons of photos of her in various hats. Like a dream.

Getting Erin’s hair is simple. Allow bedhead. Allow roots. Allow your hair to party.

This week on Divine Caroline I show you a little bungee tutorial.

I talk about how bungees are amazing for all your pony tail needs…”Especially if your hair is thick and unruly. Bungees don’t put up with that type of behavior….and for good reason.”

Halfie Halo

(my take on some crappy hippie pose)

Since posting the Hippie Halo tutorial last month, I’ve loved getting tagged in your tweetpics and instagram photos. Seeing the Hippie Halo in action makes both my heart and my hair swell. Some of you have gotten creative, and just done some partial hippie halos. I’ve been calling it the “Halfie Halo”. It’s a good look for those of you who like hair in your face (I do!).

Lacy’s is gorgeous.

Andrea’s is gorgeous.

These two inspired me to try the halfie halo. Even though it’s called the halfie halo, I wore it and felt fully cute. That was a bad joke…but a true statement. This beautiful headband was sent to me by a company called Andrea’s Beau. It’s not really done too differently than the full blown hippie halo. Alls you do is situation your headband to your liking, then tuck the back section only. Easy as anything!

My top is from Forever 21, my jeans are from Rag&Bone, my wedges are from Steve Madden and my headband is from Andrea’s Beau.

As always, share your Hairdresser on Fire inspired ‘dos with me! I love to see your creative takes on these styles. Tag me on twitter @hdofblog, or on instagram @busybusyscissors or on facebook.
