As a hairstylist, I give free bang trims to my clients. I started doing this because most of my clients would request that I cut their bangs shorter then they wanted, so they would last longer. But you just end up not liking them for a few weeks. So I always suggest that they come see me between haircuts, so they can have perfect bangs. Most of my clients tip $5-20 for a bang trim.

You get back 10 fold what you give away! Bang trims are always complimentary with me, too. Maybe, selfishly it is benefiting me more as I don’t have to repair a butchering! Everyone wins~beautiful!

As a stylist, I do this! And other stylists in my salon think I’m crazy, but i see it as that little thing that shows the client you care. and I don’t want to nickel and dime them to death. Just like baby’s first haircut with me is complimentary. I also don’t expect a tip, but it is always nice. I’d say check out how much a bang trim costs in surrounding salons and do 50% of that.

My stylist offers free bang trims, but I was wondering…is it okay to see her for more than one bang trim in between haircuts? I only get my hair cut a few times a year.

I think you could do an entire post on tipping! For instance, in Atlanta, my haircut is $66 but my sweet, sweet stylist blows out my very curly, very think hair for me. She books my appointment for one hour instead of her regular 45 minute window. I want to tip her for the extra time, but I’m not sure how much. I usually give her $90. What do you think?

I need a regular trim. When I am done being broke from moving (hopefully shortly) I will be coming in for that.
