Visit the Aussie site to learn more about this, and other Aussie Stylers.

I’m excited to show you all this third video in our Aussie series, because if there is one topic I get asked about the most, it’s definitely frizz! Talia, my model, has naturally curly hair that frizzes very easily, so a rich product is a must to keep her hair smooth. In this video, I’ll be using the Aussie Anti Frizz Cream along with some styling techniques to cut down the frizz.

Enjoy!

Reagan’s guide to healthy(er) hair.

Is your hair straw-like?

Over-processed? Over dyed? Over heat-styled? Over everything?

Then I’ve got the solution for you!

(does that sound like an infomercial?)

Step One: Get a freakin’ trim! Take a look at your ends. If they are see-through, fuzzy and/or slightly resemble cotton candy or velcro, you need a haircut. The longer you put it off, the higher the damage is going to spread up the hair shaft. Put down the internet and call your stylist. Then come back and finish reading this extremely informative and well written hair article.

Take a cue from Olivia, perhaps?

Step Two: Tone it down, literally. If your hair is as damaged as we think it is, you are probably bleaching it a lot, right? Hows about you tone it down to a more natural color that doesn’t require so much lifting? You’ll be able to go longer between color visits, and the less processing the less breakage! Ok? Yay!

Something like this maybe. Not bad, right?

Step Three: Cool it on the heat styling. A little heat is ok once in a while. Hell, it’s ok a few times a week. But if you are shampooing, blow drying, flat ironing every single day, I really doubt your hair health will ever improve. Your hair might be addicted to the flat iron, it might be the only way to get it smooth at this point. My advice is to pull it up in a pretty pony, a beautiful bun or a sassy braid. You can do any of these with zero use of heat. I’m willing to bet that the number of people who notice you are no longer torching your hair daily will be less than you think.

If you practice these three steps, then I have no doubt you can have healthy hair. If you refuse them, then I guess you like cotton candy for hair! Sorry!

Shaved Sides

What do you think about the shaved sides look?

I think it can look so cool on the right girl. I’ve seen some major hits and also some extreme misses with this trend for sure. I can’t say that I’m really tempted to do this look on myself for several reasons, the biggest being that I like my hair as big as possible, so every strand has a very important job.

Recently Jake did a photo shoot with Radcollector. The concept was what a girlfriend does while her boyfriend is away. Apparently she wears his clothes and jumps on his bed, haha.

Anyway, this girl is hot. And to top it off, she has STEPS!

I love the one of her shaved head/top knot combo!

So, are you brave enough for the shaved side look?

American Apparel hair accessories

One of my favorite places to shop for hair accessories, is American Apparel. I only spend about two minutes in the clothes sections, and the rest of the time is hovering over their hair stuff. They have great hats, bows, headbands and clips. Their selection has gotten huge and my collection is growing along with it!

Here are a few of my favorites. I have all of these (but in different colors) and wear them all the time!

Leather bow.

Seen (a snippet of it) here.

Navy Blue Velvet Twist scarf

Chiffon Twist scarf. (I have this one in black)

So the twist scarfs are awesome. There are a million ways you can wear them. They have wires in them, so you can twist them in all different ways. You can make them look like a little rose bud, like in the first picture, or you can twist them to give them a more *”turban” effect. I also like to wear mine with a little bit of a subtle off centered bunny ear look. It’s quite cute!

I also have the grey version of this wool floppy hat, which is the perfect sun hat for winter.

Anyway, I’m basically obsessed with the headwear section of American Apparel. Do you wear hair accessories?
Go here to shop!

*I’ve noticed that pretty much everything is considered a turban these days. This is just a scarf with a thick twisted look for a similar effect.

Halloween

Before I forget, I want to talk about Halloween!

My ragdoll costume was last minute. In fact, I was going through my closet in a panic for a costume, and I saw this dress! Every time I wear it, people tell me I look like a ragdoll, so it was just kind of the perfect last minute costume!

One major factor for me with Halloween, is that I want to have “special” hair and/or make up. My ragdoll hair wasn’t all that difficult or crazy, but it’s not every day that I get to wear my hair in high pig tail braids with satin ribbons, so I was very happy with it. My make up was a little more work. I used individual lashes on the top and the bottom. It took some time, but it totally reminded me of a doll. For my lips, I first used very light concealer to make them blend with the rest of my face, then I drew a smaller doll looking heart mouth.

I love Halloween. Do you dress up? Do you go for scary, funny, cute or sexy?

Building a “hair foundation”.

I have a strong belief that any hair can hold curl. A lot of clients swear that theirs is the hair that will never hold curl, and it is my true joy to prove them wrong.

All you need is products. Possibly handfuls upon handfuls, but that is all you need.

My very favorite foundation is mousse. I talk about mousse all the time, but I don’t know that I ever get much more specific than saying that it is great for volume. The truth is, mousse is the world’s greatest foundation product. Note: sometimes my clients are shocked to see that I might use two or three handfuls of mousse in their hair. That is when I don’t have time for nonsense (or misbehaving hair).

Here is what you’re going to do. Shower (or just shampoo/condition your hair). Towel dry. Put in several handfuls of mousse. Every inch of your hair will be moussed, root to tip. The key is to take the silky/softness out. Then you are going to comb through. Then you’re going to blow dry. Then you are going to curl your hair and possibly set it in pins (while it cools). And it is going to hold.

All day. Can you imagine?

It might not feel like real hair, but it will look beautiful and it will hold. Some people are lucky enough to have hair that does what you want it to with little effort and little to no product. The rest of us have to work a little harder!

Here are my favorite mousses.
