My Favorite Movie Hair: Holly Golightly

I’ve decided to start a new segment on my blog about hair from the movies! Movies often inspire trends in every sense of the word, and I’d be lying if told you they don’t inspire me. Sometimes I catch myself loving or hating a movie, based on the hair/costume/styling alone. There are so many iconic hair moments in movies, and I’m really excited to share my favorites with you here!

It might be the obvious choice, but my first favorite movie hair is Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I love this movie. I love everything about it. When I watch Holly on the screen, I am mesmerized with her life, her apartment, her relationships, her cat, her clothes, her business (Snow in New Orleans!) and of course…her hair.

She basically wears a huge glorious french twist the whole movie. From the big swoop on top, to the highlights in the front, to her wispy little pixie bangs, it’s the perfect look. Holly Golightly might be my be all end all of girl crushes.

On to the pictures!

Are you humming Moon River yet?

To learn a basic french twist, go watch my full up fat twist tutorial!

Fact, about two years ago, I made it my mission to find a sleep mask like Holly’s. I spent an entire Saturday ebaying and etsying and googling anything I could imagine that would find me this mask. I had no luck.

Here’s the sleep mask you’ve been looking for. It’s not as sparkly as the original but still pretty good. Hope this ends the search!

Oh, you are so right! She has amazing hair through the whole film. My favorite is towards the end, where the top half is up and then splits into pigtails. It is the style that convinced me to grow my hair long for the first time ever.

Yay! I love movie hair! Also, I have a huge movie hair pet peeve- mainly this applies to period films- if the costumes are wonderful and immaculate and historically accurate, but the hair is very specific to only the era when the film was made. I notice it most in movies made during the 70s…and the 40s were pretty bad about this. Like it’s really so hard to not wash your hair for several weeks (as would have happened at any time before the 20th century), then find an old portrait or something to guide your creation of some sort of updo with lots of braidy details (or whatever would best fit your chosen time period).

But probably I’m the only one who even worries about things like this!

Ha! I actually WAS humming Moon River! Funny thing is, I fell in love with that song because of it’s appearance(?) on the SATC episode when Big moves to Napa. I played it over and over and over when my then bf moved to Kansas City and cried. Then I realized it was from this scene pictured above.
Anyways, one of my other favorite bloggers posted a link to this mask a few years ago and I was in LOVE, but sadly, the link took to an online shop that no longer had it. I was so sad! Cutest sleeping mask ev.

I’m actually enjoying the show Pan Am for that very reason. Love the clothes and the hair. Also, love seeing shots of NY where everyone looks put together.

LOVE this movie. Watched it with my husband. Love old movie nights.

As far as the face mask….have you considered making it one your own? Looks like felt, some glitter and trim. Probably wouldn’t be too hard to make, and WAY cheaper than buying on on the ‘net.
