Painful Hair

My friend at work has been wanting to work on double french twists with my hair for a while. They are really hard to perfect, and are a serious accomplishment in the hair world if you can get there. Its basically two french twists both going toward the center, so the back of your head sort of looks like a glamorous butt crack. Double french twists are very, very hard to do right.

So, after loads of products, probably a hundred Japanese pins (which are like regular bobbi pins on crack), and not a single hair out of place, I felt like I had had a face lift. It was so tight!

Well, 3 or 4 clients into the day, and I started getting a headache. It was fine at first, but then it was getting worse by the minute. Soon I was feeling a little dizzy and shaky and nauseous! It was insane. I actually excused myself from a client, asked an assistant to start blow drying her, and ran to the back room in a panic to take out the pins.

After getting most of them out, I felt a little better, but my headache was there for good and it caused me to lose the entire content of my stomach. Can you believe that? It was so crazy to go back to my client like Hey, sorry about that, my hair was hurting so much that I threw up. How do you want your bangs today?.

I kept thinking about the girls that get tight tracks all over their head for weaves and the models that wear crazy hair all day long in photo shoots. I could not believe how sick my hair made me!

Anyway, all I have to say is that my friend has serious skills if she is able to do my hair sosososo tight. Talent!

I was hoping to wear my hair home so Jake could take some real pictures of the back. Double frenchies are so beautiful!

P.S. I said crack twice in this post! Now three.

Also, I have really only felt semi-painful hair from headbands or the occasional high bun/pony. Have you ever had that experience?

I typically wear my hair down, but I have noticed that when I wear it in a high pony or pinned up all day, my scalp hurts in the evening when I take it down thats nothing compared to headache and nausea, though! Crazy!

I can not find a single headband out there that doesnt give me an immediate nausea style headache. I should add I suffer from migraines anyway, and have since I was 12 or so. High ponys never bother me, but I do have to be careful how many bobby pins I use.

ps. If you know of a headband that doesnt press in on the sides of your head until you want to scream spread the word! Ive been on a headband mission for years!

When I was a kid my Mom always wanted to french braid my hair and I *hated* it. It hurt SO bad. She would be so frustrated with me when I would rip my braid out approximately 2 seconds after I was out of her line of sight.

Painful hair is no joke, sister!

@Stephanie: The Goody ouchless flex thin headbands are AMAZING. You can bend the ends to where its comfortable for you. They are also curved backward a little so the ends hit further back rather than in that uncomfortable spot. I can never find headbands that are comfortable, but I LOVE these! Im a dental hygienist and I have hair that is too short to pull up, but too long to keep out of my face while I work and these have really cut down on the amount of hairspray I use and given me an alternative to bobby pins.

haha! It wasnt my hair that made me sick but I went to Beauty School while I was pregnant. I would have to run to the bathroom every other day in the middle of doing someones hair to throw up, it was SO embarrassing and very weird to have to come back and finish!

High buns give me the WORST headache, which is unfortunate, considering I wear them several times a week. Down with hairstyle-induced headaches!

I get headached when I wear headbands, and when I wear a lot of bobby pins. When I was in high school, I had super long hair and its really thick, so when I wore it up I would get headaches, too.

Totally remember a conversation with my mother when I was 4. (Know I was that age because of the house we were living in at the time!) Mom I want my hair cut because I am tired of you giving me a headache. She always put my hair in tight ponies. The next weekend I got a cute Dorthy Hammel. (Yep, I am sort of sharing my age.)

Yep, hair headaches are my arch enemies! I have thick hair and every time I grow it out and wear it up, I get so discouraged because it hurts after an hour. Blah!

I have ALWAYS had issues with wearing headbands. I really wish that I could wear them because they are very fashionable now, but also cute for days you dont feel like doing your hair. I am starting to believe that my head is too big because they always give me headachesmajor ones =( hah.

That is a BEAUTIFUL do. Too bad it didnt last. :( That is seriously the worst feeling. Theres nothing like taking a painful (not insanely painful but just a little sore) pony or do out and rubbing your head. Ahhhhh, feels so good.
The worst I ever had it was one time when I was in highschool for some reason my cheer friends and I had to put our hair up in ponies w/ sponge rollers TWO nights before we needed the curls. (Sounds like comPLETE insanity now.) My friends mom did them Thursday night and we wore them all day to school Friday, around Fri night, and then Saturday morning we had our curls for tryouts for the competition squad.
After tryouts I went to work at Juice Stop (a smoothy place.) I just kept my pony in and didnt feel good at ALL. I didnt even think about it being the pony. I came home so sick and my mom told me to take the pony out. Oh my gosh, almost instant releif!! Duh. Ugh, it was the worst.

This is too funny: “Hey, sorry about that, my hair was hurting so much that I threw up. How do you want your bangs today?” I remember my sister making my ponytails so tight I cried :(
