Lucky Party at Elsa.

Last night I went to a Blogger party for Lucky Magazine on the Lower East Side. It was at Elsa, which is basically the cutest place I’ve ever been to. They served drinks (Hot Pants Hooch!) and delicious cookies, hummus and toast.

The Bumbies were there. They sit at their little station and type up things about you. Once Jake was at a party and they were there and they said about his friend “You’re so beautiful, I can’t look away.” hah. I got there just as they were leaving, so I didn’t get evaluated. Next time!

Kristy from Full Time Fabulous, Amanda Blair from A to B, and Me!

When we were leaving we asked to take the balloons with us. Then we had a little photo shoot with them. It was fun because everyone got involved and it became the girliest situation Jake has ever been in.

When I was walking back with my balloon to Amanda Blair’s apartment in Murry Hill, my balloon got stuck in a tree and popped. I was bummed because we were getting all kinds of attention. Turns out walking down the street with gigantic yellow balloons is pretty awesome for a Wednesday night. Everyone looked at us with a smile. And we looked at everyone with a smile and a you’re welcome.

Fun Party. I love Lucky!

Today I have a busy day at the salon. I’m filming a little segment for ChineseTV. I hope they let me see the clip when it airs so that I can show you all. Wish me the best with looking good at work today and not doing anything embarrassing on camera, haha!

Some Outfits

First of all, let me anounce that Jake obviously didn’t have anything to do with these pictures. He is the main photographer of this blog and when he isn’t around, the pictures (and the also the blog) are total crap! Oh well.

I’ve wanted to do outfit posts on here before, because I get asked to semi-often, and also because I like getting dressed. Here are just a few outfits I’ve worn to work in the last week. If I make this a habit, I promise to put up better pictures, and also have better backgrounds.

The first outfit is dear to me, because it was my mom’s shirt back in the day. And also because the sleeves are enormous. There is nothing wrong with enormous sleeves, so…it’s a great shirt. Or blouse. It’s probably a blouse. The shorts are from Modcloth last year, and the shoes are Swedish Hasbeens.

(ps it’s really hard to take full body pictures of yourself. I propped the camera on a stool and it didn’t cut it.) These are grainy, blurry and weird.)

Next is an awesome vintage dress that my friend Jen lent me. She comes into the salon all the time and noticed that one of our chairs sort of looks like a dress she has. So we decided I had to wear it at work and sit in the chair. Someone totally sat on my lap thinking I was the chair because I blended so well. (ps that didn’t happen)

The next outfit I wore yesterday. I got it at a vintage store in Paris called Freep Star. I’m going to go back one day. I bought so much stuff there. This dress smelled awful when I got it, but thanks to my cheerleading days back in high school, I know how to care for polyester. Pheeew!

It might be my favorite vintage find ever! Belt from Target and clogs from Madewell.

I guess with three vintage outfits in one post, it might seem like I’m a vintage snob. I am not. I do love vintage and I get the excitement over finding something awesome. It seems like a treasure because it’s rare and unique and it might possibly have a world of stories behind it. But, most of my clothes are not vintage.

Ok, bye!

Also, unfortunately, Jake and I are sooooo busy these days and haven’t been able to film a tutorial in weeks. We are hoping to soon, but it might be like two weeks or something. I literally have at least 20 in mind, so hopefully we can whip out lots!

I made it into the Seventeen Magazine beauty blog! One of the writers was at the Ash party last week. Pretty cool.

A couple fellow Whittemore House stylists and I represented our salon at the new Ash shoe store opening party last night. We set up a little booth to do braids and feather clips for all the party guests. It was a really fun night and the guests were so cool. I thought they’d all be picky about what they wanted, but not a single person sat down with a plan. They all said “do whatever you want!”. I love creative freedom!

That’s SNL’s Vanessa Bayer on the left. I did her little mermaid braid and feather. She was the sweetest.

Angela and Chauntel working hard!

Another one of my braided creations

I love this action shot of the texture spray!

There were a couple of other celebrities there. A few of the 90210 girls like Shanae Grimes and Jessica Stroup. But the guest of honor was Solange Knowles, who was nice enough to pose with the Whittemore girls.

It was pretty cool to look out into the party and see every kind of braid imaginable. Also, it’s always nice to get out of the salon once in a while.

Hair for the Tonys.

I guess Jen is my muse.

She comes over to hang out, and next thing I know, I’m asking if I can do her hair. And she is saying yes. One thing leads to another and before we realize it, she has a full on ‘do and I’m a little out of breath and drinking gatorade to replentish my electrolytes. Having a fit of creativity can take a lot out of you.

Enough about me. Let me brag about Jen for a minute! Well, she was part of the lighting team for the biggest Broadway show of the moment “The Book of Mormon”, which swept the Tonys last night. It won in most of the categories it was nominated in, including best Lighting Design! Go Jen! (Have you seen this show? I have! If you’ve seen it, you know why it’s winning everything. It’s unlike anything else on Broadway. So clever, so funny, so unique, so well done, and slightly inappropriate!)

So Jen had awesome Tony party hair. I was awakened this morning by texts of Jen’s night. She was standing next to the host of the night, Neil Patrick Harris, and she was holding the Tony for Best Lighting design. I’m so proud of her!

On to the hair!

This only took about 15 minutes, which I find is all I need with Jen’s hair. I think it’s because it is so much like mine (aside from color and current length) that I feel like I’ve stepped out of my own body and am just doing my own real body’s hair. I think if Jen reads this, she is going to say no next time I ask, because after re-reading, that just sounded weird.

Anyway, fun times playing with hair! And fun times winning Tonys!

Did you guys watch?

And on a side note, here is a photo of Jen and I together at the Book of Mormon opening night party a few months ago. Fun night dancing next to Paul Rudd and much of the cast from SNL.

My Monday.

I work at the salon Tuesday through Friday, but I did some extracurricular hair yesterday just for fun! Jen, my good friend who is now my neighbor, had a birthday yesterday, so I told her to come upstairs to the 5th floor for some birthday hair presents. She said she was about to have a day of celebrating with her boyfriend, so I wanted to do something that would be out of her way and easy for daytime, but also pretty for nighttime.

We did a little braid swooping from the back to the side. I didn’t invent this guy, I’ve seen it around and done it on myself a few times. It looked great on Jen. She has amazing hair!

After Jen, I went to Long Island to do a wedding hair trial for my best friend, Sarah. I obviously can’t show pictures of that (yet), but she looked stunning. We then went to a gown fitting for both of us (I’m the maid of honor!). It was so great to be able to see the gown with the hair, in fact, it’s really pretty important to know what the gown looks like, so that the hair can be balanced. If you are getting married and doing a hair trial, try to bring your stylist a photo of your gown or at least of one similar!

Anyway, the wedding is July 9th! I can’t wait. Now I just need to figure out how I’ll do my own hair! For sure up in that July heat!

(this is what happens when I take my own pictures. horrible!)

I was on vacation!

I’ve been away from the blog for about a week and a half because my husband, Jake, and I went on vacation to Barcelona and Paris. It was a great trip, we had so much fun, but it’s good to be back! We’re hoping to film a tutorial or two this weekend since it’s been a few. I can’t wait. Tutorials are my favorite.

So, if you are into it, I thought I’d share a few photos of our vacation with you!

Did you notice my vacay hair? Maude braids, halo braids and top knots galore. I love for my hair to look good and be out of my way so I don’t have to worry about anything but having fun!

How do you wear your hair on a holiday?
