I think this might be one of my favorite tutorials to date. This is a style that I wear very often, and youll see why when you watch the video. It can be perfected in a matter of minutes! If I dont get 50 emails with LMSB photo submissions, I dont know what will make you happy, guys. So hairies, Im hoping for 50 photos. Do it!

I love it I cant wait for my hair to grow out so I can start styling it more It was practically shaved about 6 months ago so its slowly getting there :)

  2. Sara Says:

I wish I had enough hair to try this–you make it look so easy and your hair is beautiful! You are seriously making me consider some clip in/on hair.

  3. Zak Says:

I am trying this asap, I am hoping I can do this with longish hair.

And girl, I could watch you do hair all day long, not to sound like a creeper. You totally need your own show.

  4. Kathy Says:

Yay!!!! Just today I was thinking I needed to look to see if you had already done this and if not, request it immediately. You saved me the effort. :)

  5. Grete Says:

Just for reference do you have very thick hair? Theres no way my hair would be held in a wad with one small plastic band What would you recommend for thick hair? A rubber band to hold the pony tail and one or two more to hold the bun?

  6. Reagan Says:

@Grete: Hi Grete! I have medium thickness. Those plastic bands can hold a surprisingly huge amount of hair. But it sounds like your hair is mad-thick, so Id say use a couple! Or use whatever elastics you like. I do recommend avoiding doing a pony tail first though, because it will take away the effortless look of it. But go ahead and try that if nothing else is working. Good luck!

  7. Jen Says:

P.S. You look so pretty in this video! Well you always look awesome but there is something just great about you in this video and I think its those lips. I love that color on you!

  10. andi Says:

  12. Sarah Says:

@brissa: yes! I have to know what lipstick that is, too!

  13. Kathleen Says:

This is one of my favorite hair styles as well. Sometimes I call it a chignon to sound fancy. I always get compliments on it, eventhough its really just a quick mess of bobby pins and unruly hair. Thanks for the turtorial! Also, Ive been wanting a tie neck blouse like yours forever, super cute!

  14. Jenny Says:

I have really thick hair and when its really long I just use two elastics.

  26. j.r Says:

heyy, i love this look, but it wouldt probably be easier for me if i had some kind of texture in my hair, its just soo straight :(

I love your site and it has been really helpful for a butterfinger like me! :)

Just to let you know, the song on the backgroud is Yelle`s Ce Jeu. Nice, isn´t it!?

  31. Kelly Says:

YES! I have been trying to do this myself with dismal results. Thank you for the steps to pull it off! Picking my boyfriend up at the airport tonight and he is going to go bananas for this look!

  32. Allison Says:

I just used this tutorial to create an updo for a gala we attended over the weekend. I curled my hair a bit more and pinned the bun more for a more structured look. Then I curled my side swept bangs in a retro 20s style. Everyone complimented my hair all night and asked which salon I went to. I was so proud to tell them I had done it myself! (total first for me!). They also said i looked straight out of boardwalk empire! Thanks for making it so easy!! Ive always been intimidated to try new things with my hair, but you make it so easy & fun. Love your blog!!!

  33. Eva Says:

Could I wear this for a formal event?

  34. Jenn L. Says:

    Just had to comment:
Ive always wanted to know how to do this style so perfectly!
It never occurred to me to create the bun, and then use the tie.
Id always try to make a ponytail first.
No wonder! It works great! Thanks!

  35. Nichole Says:

This worked so well :) it was really frustrating trying to get my hair to stay in the bun as my hair is VERY fine -__- but it looks really good now !!! :) xx thanks ;)

  36. Lena Says:

Bobby pins And a smaller elastic, THATS why mine never came out very well before! I like to do the diagonal Katniss braid (from The Hunger Games) but I dont have enough hair to do a full braid down my shoulder, so I just do a side bun, if I do it your way, its sure to look a-mazing! :)

  37. Ellen Says:

love this look! Would you mind telling me the lipstick you are wearing? Its gorgeous! And also, what curling iron do you use? Thanks!
