To thank you for all of your participation in the blog over the last year, we’d like to give you one of my favorite brushes. The Ibiza! It has a lightweight cork handle and the most perfect bristles. The one I’m giving away is a medium sized one, just a little bigger than the picture above and can be used on pretty much any length of hair!

Leave a comment if you want to win! And if you tweet or blog about this post, just leave an extra comment with the URL to your tweet/post! I’ll close comments on Sunday morning before choosing a winner. Good luck and THANKS for reading. Wink.

Tutorial: Halo Braid

Here is the long awaited halo braid tutorial. It is the easiest thing ever, just not on yourself! I feel like I’m upside down with tangled arms and confused fingers when I do it on myself. But with two mirrors and tired arms I can get it done pretty nicely! Maybe practice on your roommates, friends, wives and children before you start on yourself! Have fun and as always, send me pictures!

Today is day one of our Hairdresser On Fire one year anniversary party! To celebrate we have a lovely tutorial today. This tutorial is for that girl who loves her beach vacations for the awesome hair it gives her. There are many variations of this blow-dry, depending on how big of sections you use. I did pretty small ones on Erin, but you can play around with it and decide what you like best for yourself!

Try it out and send over some photos!

On April 22, Hairdresser On Fire is turning 1!

The crowd goes wild!!

I’m so proud of the growth of the blog in just one year, and grateful for all of your participation. Submitting questions, requesting tutorials, liking us on Facebook, following us on Twitter, commenting on posts and sharing your knowledge about hair too. It’s wonderful to have you all join in on the fun! Jake spends huge amounts of time editing photos and producing/filming/editing tutorials, and my mind is always racing with ideas for the blog. I love to look back on this year and see where our hard work has taken us!

To celebrate HDOF’s first birthday, we unfortunately wont be smearing cake all over it (because it’s a computer and not a child)…but we will be doing giveaways or tutorials every day for one whole week!

The crowd goes wild again!

Make sure you check back next week for the festivities! Get excited y’all.

It’s a Hairabration!

My hair dos: Mermaid braid

I’m not sure if this hairstyle has a proper name, but I’ve always just called it a mermaid braid.

This quick (which is my favorite kind) little ‘do is something I often toss in when my hair is getting dirty. I think a braid is the best way to hide oil and dirt when you have already used more dry shampoo than you are proud to admit. I’m not sure of any bad effects of dry shampoo, but I don’t care for the cakey feeling it can give my hair if I use it too many days in a row. I wear this (but add a pony tail) when I run so that I don’t have to worry about bangs flopping in my face. I also prefer this look to ugly sports headbands. People will be jeal’ that you’ve added glamor and class to your work out, and they’re stuck with with some crummy headband that never did it’s job properly anyway. Try it!

Plus I literally can whip this guy out in 5 seconds. Faster than you can say “Bob ‘s your uncle”. And definitely faster than you can type it.

I’m not sure where I saw this picture, but I am obsessed.

There are four major points of obsession…
The short ribbon=obsessed
The Bumpy Roots (done right!)=obsessed
The long pretty hair, not too dark, not too light=obsessed
The length=obsessed.

My hair is certainly not short anymore, but it’s not long yet either. Sometimes I think of going short again, but pictures like this remind me that I’m really a long haired girl at heart. I think it’s romantic and fairy tail like.

I really love this picture. So sorry for not crediting it properly!

Tutorial on Blow Dry with Volume and Body

Posted in Tutorial on April 6th, 2011 by Reagan

Here is our fun little blow dry tutorial. I’m so excited to get it up! I have been putting off this tutorial for a while, because it is really hard to explain a blow dry properly. There is a lot of information that you forget you ever learned once it becomes second nature to you. Then you’re whipping them out just like you’d tie your shoe.

There is so much info, that I would have to have someone doing a blow dry in front of me so that I can tell them “do this here or do that there”. There are wrist movements and brushing patterns, they are really quite complicated!

Two things I forgot to mention: The smaller the brush, the more curl and volume you’ll get (but it can look funny on too long of hair). And make sure you blow dry working your way from the roots down instead of drying the ends first and working upwards.

Also, rough drying=getting the water out just with your hands and blow dryer before you start trying to create the shape with the brush and sectioning..

I hope this all makes sense! I’m a little nervous about how this will go down. Make me proud!
(hint: the video is pretty long, so it might be kind of choppy, depending on connection speed, unless it is allowed to completely load before watching)
