I love that this is called Ombre Hair (first it was called Bayalage). I have been trying to get this look for over a century and I am finally accepting that I really need to have highlights in the very front section so that I don’t look washed out. I keep the ombre in the back though, just to hold tight to my dreams of having hair like these ladies above. I think these are two of my favorite ombre pictures ever. This technique of coloring has to be my favorite of all time. Isn’t it gorgeous? I wish it worked better on lighter blonds like myself!

Celebrities who do this look well: Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel Bilson, Giselle  and Nicole Richie.

Celebrity Hair: Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is my number one. She is my very favorite model, and she is my number one style icon. I think there have probably only been one or two outfits that I’ve seen her in that I haven’t completely fallen out of my chair over. She’s amazing.

Now that I am noticing short hair more and more, it suits that she is my number one short haired chick too. My friend Sarah even caught on that I was copying her hair cut, and I didn’t even notice it. But she is right.

If I move to Brooklyn Alexa and I are going to be best friends. And maybe her British accent and coolness will rub off on me.

Hair Answers: Beach Waves

Welcome to the very first HDOF Q. and A. Here it is!

Q by Andrea from Portland: My hair has that really awesome beachy wave when it air dries, but it’s always been kind of frizzy. Is there a product I can put in it to tame the frizz? This is a really long question about frizz.

A by Reagan: Yes! There is most absolutely a product and a few techniques to help you out. I like to start out my beachy wave styling by towel drying right out of the shower. Very thoroughly. Soak that water right up. Then I put in a (this is the most important part) smoothing cream in the palms of my hands, and scrunch into my hair. Repeat as drying if necessary. I know what you’re thinking, no mousse, no gel, no hairspray? Nope. None of them. They enhance curl, which is good, but also dry out the hair and often create more frizz. A smoothing cream moisturizes your beachies while giving it just a little bit of hold. If you have natural wave, you don’t need lots of hold, right? Oh yeah, I use Outshine, by Redken. It’s my favorite. You can use it on wet or dry hair. I often use it on both! Also try Glass by Redken as a finishing gloss.

There you go! Hope it helps!

Hairy Dresses

On the Wednesday episode of Americas Next Top Model, the models wore dresses made completely out of hair. At first I thought it was sort of disgusting, but the more I thought about it, I remembered that I am wearing a collaboration of my clients’ hair in every pair of shoes, outfit and handbag that I own. Sometimes I find it in strange places, like inside the current book I’m reading. Whatever, I still think hairy clothes is gross. Even if the pictures came out beautiful.

Here’s my Hairdresser On Fire vision (please try to picture me with a power point presentation. And a laser pen): This blog will just be a fun place to talk about hair. I’ll post inspiring and beautiful hair images, discuss styles, tell stories, answer questions and maybe post some of my work here and there. Feel free to email me any questions you’d like answered, because I’m a total pro and *know everything. Dont worry, your hair is in good hairy hands.

*I swear in the likely event that I don’t know something, I will turn to my hair friends whom are all way better looking and richer than me for help.

Starting Up

Boy, is it ever awkward to start a new blog. I had no idea where to start and what the first post should be about, so I kind of waited around until my attention was grabbed. Kind of ironically, I chopped off my hair this week. I say ironic because this header was made only two weeks ago, and it is now outdated. I am really excited about my short hair, it’s always fun to play with a new look, but I have to admit that a little part of me is afraid of the big change. These beautiful pictures are helping me shake off any regret that is there. Short hair can definitely be as stunning as long hair. And even more if you have a lace baby doll dress to go with it, right? That’s what I learned from the first picture at least…
